About Sue

Practical business support from someone who’s been there.

Hi, I’m Sue Jaycock. I spent more than 30 years working as a holistic therapist before retiring from hands-on therapies in early 2026 and focusing fully on helping other therapists with the business side of their work.

I understand how rewarding therapy work can be, but I also know how much happens outside the treatment room. Finding clients, choosing where to work, setting prices, managing bookings, creating a website, marketing your services and trying to earn a sustainable income can sometimes feel like a second job.

I’ve experienced many different ways of working, from travelling to clients and working from home to renting rooms and building a busy practice. Some arrangements worked wonderfully. Others taught me valuable lessons about boundaries, professionalism, energy and what makes a therapy business sustainable.

Today, I bring that experience together with my background in business, administration, IT, coaching and teaching to help therapists make clearer decisions and create businesses that work better for them.

More Than 30 Years in the Therapy World (and Counting!)

I began working as a therapist more than 30 years ago. Like many therapists, I knew how to help my clients, but I had to learn how to run a business, and more specifically, how to run a therapy business.

I was building my practice while raising two small children, fitting my work around family life and learning through experience what worked and what didn’t. Moving house also meant starting again and rebuilding my client base in a new area on at least two occasions.

Over the years, I worked in many different ways. I travelled to clients, treated people from home and rented rooms in a variety of clinics. Each experience taught me something about what therapists really need, from clear boundaries and sensible pricing to a professional environment and a working week that doesn’t leave them exhausted.

I later managed a health and wellbeing centre, supporting practitioners as they joined the centre and developed their own businesses. I saw that even highly skilled therapists could struggle with the practical side of self-employment, particularly marketing, pricing, organisation and attracting enough of the right clients.

In 2016, I wrote How to Create a Successful Therapy Business. I had seen too many talented, well-qualified therapists struggle, not because they weren’t good at helping people, but because their training hadn’t prepared them for the realities of running a business.

Helping other therapists build successful, sustainable businesses has been part of my longer-term plan ever since. When I retired from hands-on therapies in early 2026, I was able to turn my attention fully towards that goal.

My passion now is helping therapists grow their businesses in a way that is practical, manageable and right for them. I understand the work, the pressures and the emotional investment involved because I have experienced them myself.

Experience Beyond the Treatment Room

Before and alongside my therapy career, I worked as a secretary and personal assistant. This gave me an excellent grounding in administration, organisation and the systems that help a business run smoothly.

I have a teaching degree and taught IT in colleges, adult education classes, through local government and library services, and within businesses including Mercedes-Benz. Working with people from many different backgrounds and levels of experience strengthened my technical knowledge, but just as importantly, taught me how to explain things clearly, adapt to different ways of learning and help people feel more confident with something they may initially find daunting.

I have a natural ability to see the wood for the trees. I can look at a tangle of ideas, tasks or information, identify what really matters and turn it into a clear, manageable process.

I’m practical, hands-on and straightforward in the way I work. I take people through things step by step, providing a solid framework they can follow without making the process feel overwhelming.

My aim is not to give you more information or an unrealistic list of things to do. It is to help you understand what matters, focus on the right priorities and make steady progress.

This combination means I understand both the personal nature of therapy work and the practical foundations a small business needs.

How I Work

My approach combines coaching, mentoring, teaching and practical business support.

Sometimes you need someone to ask the right questions and help you work out your own answer. Sometimes you need clear information, a different perspective or a framework to follow. And sometimes you simply need practical help getting something done.

There is no single formula that works for every therapist. I will help you find a way forward that suits you, your clients, your energy and the life you want to lead.

You won’t be pushed into following complicated strategies or trying to do everything at once. We will concentrate on what is most important and break it down into practical, manageable steps.

A Little More About Me

I live in Daventry, Northamptonshire, with my partner, Adrian, and I have two adult sons. Away from work, I enjoy walking, travelling,  spending time with family and friends, watching Rugby and settling down with a good film.

Speaking and Sharing

Alongside my one-to-one work, I’m available to speak to groups and communities of holistic, complementary and wellbeing practitioners.

I share practical, straightforward ideas about running a therapy business, attracting clients, building confidence and making the business side feel clearer and more manageable.

If you run a group or community and think this would be helpful, please get in touch.
